Methods to discriminate between natural and various manmade sources of greenhouse gases are needed to support governments to verify emissions and demonstrate reduction targets.

Project fills a traceability gap by providing new measurement infrastructure for stable isotopes of the major greenhouse gases CO2 and N2O.

WP1: New reference materials for d13C–CO2 and d18O–CO2 to uphold the global measurement infrastructure
WP2: New international reference materials and scale for d15Na, d15Nb and d18O–N2O
WP3: Advancing optical isotope ratio spectroscopy for CO2 and N2O

MIKES develops a compact spectroscopic isotope analyser for pure N2O and a field-deployable CO2 isotope analyser for atmospheric measurements.
