OC18: Optical clocks with 1E–18 uncertainty

2016–2019          Future primary frequency standards

Optical clocks with 10-18 uncertainty have applications in a wide range of sectors from basic science and metrology to geodesy, satellite navigation and environmental monitoring.

Project develops world-leading optical atomic clocks that will support the future redefinition of the SI second and underpin timescales.

MIKES studies drifts in optical cavities and real-time thermometry of ion traps and improves the design of ion trap and electronics.
